From June 29 to July 3, 2026, representatives of the “SABR” National Center for Socio-Economic Development (“SABR” NCSED) participated in a training-of-trainers (ToT1) program “Dynamics of Rural Tourism Development and Teaching Methods” as part of the project “Empowering Women through the Development and Implementation of Rural Tourism Entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan” (DIANA), organized by Universidade Portucalense (Porto, Portugal). Over the course of five days, participants from the project’s partner countries (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Portugal, and Germany) studied modern approaches to rural tourism development, support for women’s entrepreneurship, and adult learning methodologies. The program combined presentations, group work, and study visits to successful rural tourism sites. The visit to the Peneda-Gerês National Park proved particularly valuable, as participants learnt about successful examples of family business development, ecotourism and the sustainable use of natural resources. Such practical sessions provided an insight into how rural tourism contributes to the development of local communities, the creation of jobs and the expansion of economic opportunities for women. During the training, participants explored modern educational methodologies, including Project-Based Learning and Design Thinking, which help to make the educational process more practical, interactive and focused on solving real-world problems.
Taking part in the programme provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from different countries, establish new professional contacts and discuss prospects for further cooperation.
The knowledge gained and best European practices will be utilised by the SABR NCSED in the implementation of the DIANA project in Uzbekistan, the development of training modules, and the provision of support to women interested in developing entrepreneurship and rural tourism.
